In 2020-21 Volunteering Matters worked with the Ipswich Opportunity Area to address immediate support for families with English as an additional language as schools were forced to close their doors to most children during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Support was available to families in digital literacy and support with learning at home. 16 volunteers were recruited and trained to provide a wide range of community support, representing several languages.
Lets Talk Reading has also collaborated closely with the IOA to bring a range of dual language books to schools and early years settings.
As we move into a new academic year, hopefully less impacted by the restrictions of the last 18 months, we are keen to address the needs of families who want to get the most out of education but need support to overcome language barriers.
